I understand that facing an audience<\/span> is the scariest<\/strong> thing about giving a presentation<\/span> and that it is normal for you to look for shelter in the only thing that gives you some degree of safety: your slides<\/span>. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, you should place a higher priority on your audience<\/span> <\/strong>than your slides<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A presentation<\/span> is a moment of dialogue<\/strong> with the audience<\/span>, a two-sided conversation, during which you, as a speaker, share some information and the audience<\/span> interacts with you to build on it by asking questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You want to keep the discussion going; don\u2019t let your presentation<\/span> take over. You should lead the conversation, not your slides<\/span>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The answer is very easy: you shouldn’t wait for the next slide<\/span><\/strong> to appear on screen to start commenting on it, but you should always anticipate your slides<\/span>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea is to use them as a support to clarify your message<\/strong> and help people to remember your message for longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My suggestion is to enable PowerPoint<\/span> presenter<\/strong> view using Clickshare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Presenter View allows you to show the PowerPoint<\/span> presentation<\/span> and to have the next slide<\/span> under your eyes at the same time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I want to show you how to enable PowerPoint<\/span> presenter view using Clickshare.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the image<\/span> below, the big slide<\/span> on the left is what\u2019s currently projected to the audience<\/span>; the small slide<\/span> on the right is the next slide<\/span> to come. Just underneath the next slide<\/span>, you have space for notes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the notes are not there to be read<\/strong>, you can use this space to hold key points, examples you want to bring up, or any interesting trivia you found on the topic\u2014the options are endless!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Always being able to check which slide<\/span> comes next helps you to introduce the slide<\/span><\/strong>, control the presentation<\/span> and keep the eye contact with people in front of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PowerPoint presenter view: how to activate it using Clickshare  <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To learn how to present a PowerPoint<\/span>, first, make sure your laptop is connected to a second screen<\/strong> (for example, a projector), then extend your desktop (not just duplicate it).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extended desktop means that you have one desktop split across two screens, so you can move your mouse arrow from one screen to the other.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you launch the Presenter View of PowerPoint<\/span> (shortcut F5) while extending your Desktop, the presenter view will appear automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you don’t know how to setup a PowerPoint<\/span> presentation<\/span>, all you need to do is have your laptop between you and your audience<\/span><\/strong>, so that you can always drop an eye to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I considered that having a simple setup with HDMI\/VGA cable and my laptop under my eyes would be enough to deliver a successful presentation<\/span>\u2014until I met the so called \u201cClickshare\u201d, which changed everything. This is the reason because I want show you how to  enable PowerPoint<\/span> presenter view using Clickshare. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This hardware looks like a button <\/strong>that you plug into a USB on your computer and, by clicking the button, you immediately\nduplicate your screen with no need to use any other cable (HDMI or VGA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selling proposition of the Clickshare<\/strong> seems irresistible at a first glance: you can share the screen of any laptop through a USB port <\/strong>with no need for long HDMI or old VGA cables running under the tables<\/span> and behind the walls of meeting rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you become a regular presenter and you would like to know how to present a powerpoint<\/span>, you\u2019ll immediately understand that there are at least 2 main issues with this system:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Clickshare duplicates your laptop screen,<\/strong> but it does not automatically extend your desktop. As a result, you will see the same slide on your screen and on the projector\u2014 that means no \u2018next slide\u2019 visible in \u201cduplicate\u201d mode.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Clickshare occupies one of your USB ports<\/strong>, and nowadays there is a shortage of USB ports in laptops. For example, as I travel a lot, I use a 13\u201d laptop (xps 13\u201d from Dell) and I only have 2 USB ports. This means that one port is allocated to my remote clicker to change slides, and the other one is allocated to the Clickshare. Therefore, I can\u2019t connect my mouse unless I buy a USB hub. Using the mouse can be very useful during PowerPoint demonstrations, so being without a mouse is not the way to go\u2014when you work on a presentation in PowerPoint, the touchpad is not a friendly tool.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    I could survive giving PowerPoint<\/span> demos with my touchpad; I\u2019ve got enough experience to make it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    However, I cannot give 3 days of Lean Presentation Design course<\/a>, made of hundreds of slides<\/span>, without the presenter view.<\/strong> Since this impacts the quality of the delivery, I refused to give the training until the organizers gave me a HDMI cable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    However, Clickshare is getting more popular, probably due to its incredible value, so I had to find a solution<\/span><\/strong>. I looked into a way to use the Clickshare to extend the screen, and guess what? I found a solution<\/span>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The first step to enable PowerPoint<\/span> presenter view using Clickshare and to learn how to present a powerpoint<\/span>, is to identify which Clickshare your client is using, so that you can download the correct drivers for your computer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Once installed<\/strong>, plug in the Clickshare <\/strong>and open the hidden icons <\/strong>of your Windows status bar. You\u2019ll find a kind of circle, on which you need to right click to get to the Shared Desktop option<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To get the option of extending your desktop, you need to actually extend the desktop of your laptop first<\/strong> (as we have seen above in this article). <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Then go back to the status bar, right click on the Clickshare icon, and you\u2019ll be able to select the Extended mode. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Concerning how to setup a PowerPoint presentation I still prefer a HDMI or VGA cable<\/strong> , but <\/strong>since technology evolves, we need to adapt. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
