In <span id=\"urn:enhancement-bb55c506-7a26-b30f-afb7-607817261fe5\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/the_definitive_guide_to_presenting_data_in_powerpoint\">business<\/span>, I believe that you should always use all possible <span id=\"urn:enhancement-0670dc9e-0cd8-4c54-f8bf-bec457b91129\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/startup_pitch_deck__the_ultimate_guide_to_create_a_brilliant_startup_pitch_presentation\">data<\/span> before making a decision on investment. For example, the most structured organizations have roles dedicated to analyzing and presenting performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nowadays, the hunger for <span and affects practically every company function, from line functions to staff functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I often work<\/strong> with people in roles such as finance or accounting, who send me tables more appealing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are they looking for?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They look for visual effectiveness and communication strategy, because behind a table or a <span id=\"urn:enhancement-c3951d4e-4ea7-5480-0113-e115f93634c5\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/how_to_create_cool_powerpoint_tables\">chart<\/span>, there are messages that could support stakeholders in<strong>&nbsp;making one decision rather than another.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presenting <span id=\"urn:enhancement-f3a7f0f5-9b39-5980-1d5e-c32e39189d07\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/startup_pitch_deck__the_ultimate_guide_to_create_a_brilliant_startup_pitch_presentation\">data<\/span> in <span id=\"urn:enhancement-f11e8ab6-6109-5124-d9ca-73148099b4be\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-creative-work\" your role only included numerical <span id=\"urn:enhancement-015a13df-6a7d-0fea-374a-4ec12ebee44a\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">presentations<\/span> and therefore Lean <span id=\"urn:enhancement-61262121-e562-8def-4585-ca06be62d838\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">Presentation<\/span> Design cannot help you, this guide will change your mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong><span id=\"urn:enhancement-12cbe80d-3487-ec4b-9752-a5d1efc8aea1\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">presentation<\/span> made of tables and graphs can <\/strong>be boring, lack design of the visual path (where would you like people to look?), may be <strong>missing<\/strong>&nbsp;an information <strong>hierarchy<\/strong>, or simply missing a <strong>story<\/strong>, therefore, missing <strong>an appealing flow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the many methodologies of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-afd2f663-6f19-84ab-12b9-770e961b435a\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/startup_pitch_deck__the_ultimate_guide_to_create_a_brilliant_startup_pitch_presentation\">data<\/span> <span presenting <span id=\"urn:enhancement-b1aedce4-2eeb-e362-2761-ed4ad0146749\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/startup_pitch_deck__the_ultimate_guide_to_create_a_brilliant_startup_pitch_presentation\">data<\/span> in <span id=\"urn:enhancement-1534a35b-0ac2-3d5d-876e-f4d90a65c335\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-creative-work\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/microsoft_powerpoint\">PowerPoint<\/span> and improving the strength of your <span id=\"urn:enhancement-10947e1c-5a4e-8c24-f3f0-3c76cead6924\" class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you even think about graphs, numbers or tables, you need to understand the context in which you operate. In fact, doing <span id=\"urn:enhancement-3abfb533-2e7e-d31e-782c-297655021d24\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/startup_pitch_deck__the_ultimate_guide_to_create_a_brilliant_startup_pitch_presentation\">data<\/span> analysis is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack: digging through reports, crossing numbers and trying to identify a pattern or insight that allows you to identify or <strong>understand the dynamic of a problem,<\/strong> and then make a forecast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cole compares the analysis of the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-8b620e68-ab40-4364-6beb-9c826b567627\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/startup_pitch_deck__the_ultimate_guide_to_create_a_brilliant_startup_pitch_presentation\">data<\/span> with a search of pearls in shells: to find one, you probably have to open a hundred oysters, and this takes time and effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we do a hard job, <strong>we often forget<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>to present the whole process<\/strong> to support the final discovery, as though you were telling the story of all the time spent in the haystack to look for the needle and all the corners where you looked without success, without finishing the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However,<strong> your role is<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>to manage this complexity and present only the <span id=\"urn:local-text-annotation-y1kt8uiqurlk94vha2f7ifaathpc3436\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-creative-work\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/startup_pitch_deck__the_ultimate_guide_to_create_a_brilliant_startup_pitch_presentation\">solution<\/span><\/strong>, not all the work that was behind it. In business, the stakes can also be very high and the <strong>decision can therefore be difficult to make.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Think of a startup<\/strong>&nbsp;presented to investors to raise funding. Investors are desperate for quality projects in which to invest and multiply their earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What happens if they invest in the wrong startup?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In most cases, they <strong>lose their investment.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, investors want to be sure before making such an important decision. They obviously cannot predict the future, but during the pitch <span id=\"urn:enhancement-657bf1aa-b43f-07b3-0a2a-064c3cb0f405\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">presentation<\/span>, they will probably try to figure out if the project aims at an interesting market, if the team is solid, if a useful problem is solved, if there is any evidence of the fact that people would pay to solve the specific problem, etc. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mauriziolacava.com\/en\/presentation-resources\/the-ultimate-guide-to-creating-a-brilliant-startup-pitch-presentation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">View the ultimate guide to creating a brilliant startup pitch presentation<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All these doubts <strong>must be clarified by those who present<\/strong>, otherwise they will, almost certainly, be the subject of questions and discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, all these reflections are the <strong>obstacle that exists between the startup and it\u2019s financing<\/strong>, hence the reasons that prevent the investor from making the investment decision.&nbsp;<strong>I call them, &#8220;Resistances&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why are Resistances so important?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simple.<strong>&nbsp;If you know<\/strong> them, <strong>you<\/strong> can <strong>overcome<\/strong> them by including answers strategically within your <span id=\"urn:enhancement-82d6784f-c1b5-a543-efaa-7015db231e23\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">presentation<\/span> (see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mauriziolacava.com\/en\/books\/lean-presentation-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Act strategically in your presentation with the Lean Presentation Design approach<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If<\/strong> you are able to <strong>overcome<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong><span id=\"urn:enhancement-9fde6bbb-2a17-20b3-9f34-dd02edbb2164\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/startup_pitch_deck__the_ultimate_guide_to_create_a_brilliant_startup_pitch_presentation\">audience<\/span> resistance<\/strong> during the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-1bf71ad6-317d-334c-e2c2-e84c909f072e\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">presentation<\/span>, you will have a good chance that your <strong>recommendation<\/strong> <strong>will be accepted.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have clarified the action that you want your <span id=\"urn:enhancement-e03e861d-3257-6e96-707a-59cb33bc1c8e\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/post\/startup_pitch_deck__the_ultimate_guide_to_create_a_brilliant_startup_pitch_presentation\">audience<\/span> <strong>(WHO)<\/strong> to undertake following the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-dde99235-27f8-ea72-adb3-9949bb5563ff\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">presentation<\/span> <strong>(WHAT),<\/strong> you are able to define a communication flow that allows you to overcome the resistance and communicate effectively <strong>(HOW).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Okay, I must always have a goal. <strong>Can&#8217;t I present just to inform?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe that a good <strong><span id=\"urn:enhancement-bd7ad765-75e6-cf48-45e1-4e44a37c8113\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">presentation<\/span> always has a goal<\/strong> and therefore a final call to action. What do you think every time someone reads his slides in front of you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do I have to memorize all the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-cf947750-25c0-13a1-883e-42620a85619f\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">presentations<\/span> I make?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No, after all it would be a hard work and I think that for many,<strong> it would be unsustainable<\/strong>. Anticipating the next slide, you will communicate security and ability to lead the discourse, unlike all those speakers who seem to be guided by their own slides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, prepare well, because you should have enough information at a glance on the presenter mode to continue talking; you certainly will not stop to look at the screen of your laptop in front of everyone. But <strong>do not memorize the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-b688f474-4f43-c89d-bb63-60af85d0f2d6\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01118\/entity\/presentation\">presentation<\/span><\/strong>, it is both useless and far more risky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may happen that you arrive in the meeting room ready to project and come across an instrument called <strong>clickshare<\/strong>. When you start the wireless connection with the clickshare, you <strong>will not be able to start the presenter view<\/strong> mode and on both the screens (pc and projector), you will see the same slide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If this is the case, do not despair. I found a <strong>simple enough solution to activate the presenter view<\/strong> even if you present <strong>with clickshare<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mauriziolacava.com\/en\/presentation-resources\/presenter-view-how-to-enable-it-using-clicksharepresenter-view-how-to-enable-it-using-clickshare\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" Specifically, Cole claims that the <strong>horizontal bar graph is to be preferred over the vertical bar chart&nbsp;<\/strong>because, people read from left to right and they are therefore easier to process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I add that we, as <strong>human beings, are horizontal readers, <\/strong>and thus it is easier for us to read from one side to the other than from top to bottom (at least in the part of the world where I am).
